The annual New Institutionalism Workshop (NIW) aims to unite scholars from diverse disciplines, countries, and academic traditions. Each year, the workshop convenes to push the theoretical and empirical frontiers of institutional research. We are delighted to invite you to the 20th workshop, to be held at Paris Lodron University of Salzburg (PLUS).

This workshop serves as an open forum, creating a space for meetings and conversations where innovative research ideas and approaches related to new institutionalism can be shared. We welcome early-stage papers and encourage submissions that introduce novel topics, employ innovative methodologies, or offer fresh perspectives. Contributions that deviate from mainstream themes are particularly valued, as they will enhance and broaden our understanding of institutions and institutional phenomena. We are especially interested in literature not typically included in standard institutional theory references or not available in English. In line with the spirit of the new institutionalism network, the workshop also fosters collaboration and exchange, particularly among scholars from different disciplines or those bridging various academic fields.

We invite a broad range of scholars to submit their abstracts to present their contributions during the 20th Workshop on New Institutionalism in Salzburg. We eagerly anticipate submissions from experienced academics, young scholars, and doctoral students. We look forward to many enjoyable and productive discussions during the workshop. Participants are expected to be present throughout the event and actively engage in the discussions.

Paris Lodron University of Salzburg: PLUS has about 18,000 students enrolled in around 90 programs. Founded by Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron in 1622 and reestablished in 1962, PLUS has a long-standing history and plays a crucial role in the region’s cultural and economic life, serving as a key meeting point for educators, students, science, and the public. Many university facilities are located in architecturally impressive buildings in Salzburg’s historic city center. The city of Salzburg is known for its rich cultural heritage, including being the birthplace of Mozart and the annual Salzburg Festival (Salzburger Festspiele).

Submission of short papers:
September 15 to November 15, 2024 (between 800 and 3,000 words) via NIW@plus.at
Decision on acceptance by: December 15, 2024
Online registration starts January 15, 2025

Fees:
Regular: Up to March 1, 2025: 250 € (early bird), after March 1, 2025: 300€
PhD Students: Up to March 1, 2025: 200 € (early bird), after March 1, 2025: 250€
This includes coffee breaks, lunches, and the conference dinner.

Pre-conference get-together: We will have a pre-conference get-together the evening before the conference starts (at your own expense). Details of the event will be announced soon.
