Tenure-Track Position in MATAR (Technology, Society, and Networks)

A joint appointment in the School of Computer Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

The School of Computer Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invite outstanding candidates to apply for tenure-track positions, starting the Fall semester of 2023. We are looking for candidates who are interested in the interactions between digital technologies and social processes, widely construed.

We are open to a wide range of backgrounds in any area of the social sciences (including but not limited to sociology, economics, statistics, media, geography, law, education, political science, and psychology) or related areas. Candidates must have a track record in their field of research that interacts with technological, digital, or big-data aspects (interpreted in a wide sense). We are more interested in academic excellence and a strong interdisciplinary outlook than in the particular field of specialty.

Successful candidates will hold a joint appointment in the MATAR program in the School of Computer Science and Engineering and in one of the departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences (or, if appropriate, at a department in another faculty of the university such as law or business). The person hired will conduct research and teach introductory and advanced courses in their areas of specialization. They will also be expected to supervise Masters and Ph.D. students and to contribute to departmental and university service.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree at the time of hire, with an excellent publication list, as appropriate in their field of specialty. Applications should include the following documents:

1. Curriculum Vitae
2. List of Publications
3. Statement of research and teaching interests
4. Copies of 1-3 representative papers
5. A list of your advisors (Ph.D. and postdoctoral), as well as at most two additional references. Please include, for each reference, a title, full name, affiliation, and contact information (e-mail address). We will contact candidate references directly.

Applications and list of references may be submitted via email (in PDF format) to: matar-faculty-search(at)cs.huji.ac.il. Inquiries can also be made to that email address.

Deadline for applications: October 15th, 2022.

Appointment procedures will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Hebrew University and are subject to the approval of the university authorities. The university is not obliged to appoint any of the candidates who apply for the position.
